Visits Across the Far West of Our Electorate

The opportunity to discuss flooding issues and visit with community representatives and shire councillors from both Wentworth and Balranald Shires has been invaluable.

I have been warmly welcomed by many community groups and attended many meetings and events including:

  • Dareton Mens Shed - visual of their plans for the area.

  • Isolated Children’s Association to better understand the barriers rural children face each day.

  • Wentworth Show - “Best Rural Show” in NSW.

  • Pooncarie Pre School and the success of their first year.

  • Yabba for Yanga  - fantastic new tourist attraction.

  • Coomealla Health Aboriginal Corporation and meeting with CEO.

  • Balranald Bakery, what can I say just delicious and I love the relish!

  • Balranald Teachers Federation, hearing firsthand the difficulties faced by teachers.

Travelling the electorate, I have experienced the poor conditions of our roads as I have dodged pot holes big enough to wreck my tyres. In 2019 the National Party made an election promise to remove 15,000kms of roads from our shires and we are still waiting.

Our shires simply did not have the financial resources to maintain our roads before the floods, and now the problem is even worse. We must increase road funding to our shires, or better still move the cost of maintenance to the state.

We must continue to invest in our electorate and keep Murray moving.
