40 BILLION DOLLAR FOOD IMPORTS

How long until there is no Aussie food on the shelves?

Australia’s food imports have skyrocketed to nearly $40 billion in 2023-24, marking a $7 billion increase over just two years. This trend spells trouble for our hardworking local producers in the Murray and across the country.

Why the Increase?

Major supermarkets expanding international food aisles.

Soaring costs for local producers, from energy to raw materials.

Trade agreements creating challenges for Australian-made products.

The Impact on Local Producers

Loss of market share to cheaper imported goods.

Strained supply chains, with local businesses forced to source ingredients from overseas.

A weakening of Australia's proud "homegrown" food identity

My Take

Our farmers and food manufacturers are the backbone of the Murray electorate and beyond. We can’t afford to let them be priced out of their livelihoods. I have consistently fought for policies that support rural industries, including implementing smart water management to keep local businesses competitive, instead of this child-like "Just add water" approach.

What Needs to Change?

-Water miss-management that is killing our farmers,

Support for Australian made products,

STOP THE WATER BUYBACKS
