Water costs skyrocket

The NSW Irrigators Council's prediction that general security water costs in the Murrumbidgee Valley will skyrocket by 130% by 2030—and high-security water by 142%—is a disaster waiting to happen. These price hikes will cripple local farmers, drive food production offshore, and leave Australians unable to afford homegrown food.

This is the direct result of Canberra’s mismanagement of the Murray-Darling Basin. Instead of prioritising water security for farmers who feed the nation, the Federal Government is obsessed with buybacks and environmental flows that do nothing to fix water quality issues like pollution and invasive carp.

If these price hikes go ahead, there will be no Aussie food on supermarket shelves during the next drought.
